What Sayvai does
Sayvai App helps users communicate by tapping phrase icons that speak out loud. See our privacy policy for how data is handled.
Sayvai App has three main screens:
- Home: Use categories and phrase icons to communicate (speech playback).
- Mode: Switch between User Mode and Configurer Mode (add/delete custom phrases).
- Settings: Manage account, font size, help, app version, and voice selection.

Using Sayvai (Home Screen)
Categories and Phrase Icons
On Home, each category icon opens a page of phrase/action icons. When you tap an icon, Sayvai will play speech corresponding to that icon.
Default Icons vs Custom Icons
- Default icons: Included with the app.
- Custom phrase icons: Added by a Configurer under each category.
If you don't see an expected icon, verify you are in the correct category and confirm whether it is a default icon or a custom icon.
Modes (Mode Screen)
Sayvai supports two modes:
User Mode
This is the normal mode for day-to-day use:
- Browse categories
- Tap icons to speak
Configurer Mode
Configurer Mode is used to manage content:
- Add custom phrase icons under a selected category
- Delete custom phrase icons that were previously added
If you are helping a family member, caregiver, or patient, typically:
- Set up phrases in Configurer Mode
- Use the app daily in User Mode
Add a Custom Phrase Icon (Configurer Mode)
Important: Adding a custom phrase requires network connectivity.
- Go to Mode
- Switch to Configurer Mode
- Navigate to the relevant category (Frequently Used / Day to day / Feelings / Activity)
- Choose Add Custom Phrase (or the equivalent "+" action in your UI)
- Enter the phrase text (the words you want Sayvai to speak)
- Save the new custom phrase icon
- Return to the category page and tap the new icon to test speech output
If "Add Custom Phrase" fails
Most common causes:
- No internet connection (Wi-Fi/cellular is off or unstable)
- Temporary backend/service issue
- Network restrictions (VPN, captive portal, restricted Wi-Fi)
Try:
- Turn Wi-Fi on (or switch to cellular)
- Confirm you can load a normal webpage outside the app
- Close and reopen Sayvai and try again
Delete a Custom Phrase Icon (Configurer Mode)
- Go to Mode
- Switch to Configurer Mode
- Open the category containing the custom phrase icon
- Select the custom phrase icon
- Choose Delete (or trash/remove action)
- Confirm deletion
Note: Default icons provided by the app may not be removable.
Settings Screen
Account (Login/Logout)
In Settings, you can:
- View your login information
- Log out
- Log in again (if needed)
If you cannot log in:
- Confirm internet connectivity
- Ensure you are using the correct email/account credentials
Font Size
You can adjust font size in Settings to improve readability. If buttons/labels look too small, increase font size here first.
Help Button
Use the Help button in Settings to open this Help page.
About / Version
Settings includes an About / Version section so you can identify the app version when reporting issues.
Voice Selection (1–4 default voices)
Sayvai supports selecting from 1–4 default voices.
- The available default voices are listed based on the user profile.
To change the voice:
- Go to Settings
- Open Voice (or equivalent section)
- Select one of the available voices
- Return to Home and test a phrase icon
If you do not see multiple voices, it may be because fewer voices are available for your profile.
Frequently asked questions
Does Sayvai work without internet?
Speech playback of icons may work depending on how your build is configured.
Adding a custom phrase requires internet connectivity.
Why do I need internet to add a custom phrase?
Custom phrases are saved through an online service so they can be reliably stored and retrieved by the app.
I tapped an icon but there is no sound. What should I do?
Can caregivers configure phrases for someone else?
Yes. A caregiver can use Configurer Mode to add/delete custom phrase icons, then switch back to User Mode for daily use.
How to request for deleting my account from Sayvai App?
Send an email to info@minnagam.com providing your Name and the Email id used for signing in. In the subject mention as "Request for Account Deletion". Minnagam will remove your name, email id, age, gender, location, and language information from the Sayvai app database within 5 days of submission of email.
Common issues and fixes
1) No sound / low sound
Try in this order:
- Increase the device Media volume (not ringer volume)
- Disable Bluetooth (or confirm audio output is routed to the intended device)
- Ensure the device is not in Do Not Disturb mode (some devices restrict audio)
- Close other apps that may be using audio and try again
- Restart the device
2) Custom phrase cannot be added
Checklist:
- Confirm Wi-Fi or cellular data is ON
- Switch networks (Wi-Fi ↔ cellular) and retry
- Close and reopen the app
- Try adding a short phrase (example: "Hello") to rule out edge cases
3) Custom phrase disappeared or is not visible
- Confirm you are in the correct category
- Confirm the phrase was added under the same user/account
- Ensure network is available, then restart the app
4) App is slow or freezes
- Restart the app
- Restart the device
- Ensure sufficient free storage
- Avoid running many apps in parallel on older tablets
5) App crashes
If the app crashes repeatedly:
- Restart device
- Update to the latest version (if applicable)
- Capture details for support:
- Device model
- Android version
- Sayvai app version (Settings → About/Version)
- Steps that reproduce the crash
